The Importance of Branding

You may have heard of the term branding, but what does it mean? And why is it important to grow your business? Branding is when a company creates a symbol, design, or overall look and feel that represents the company. Think of some famous brands, such as Apple for example. The Apple logo is immediately recognizable and associated with their products, such as the iPhone. Branding is a way of distinguishing yourself from other products and businesses on the marketplace. Why?

Branding affects how people perceive your company, which means it can lead to new business as well as retain existing customers. A brand is how people remember a company: it’s the face of the company. From a professional logo, memorable characteristics, and a familiar and consistent tone of voice, branding helps customers remember your company and associate it with how your product or service has helped solve a problem.

How?

1) Create a customer profile that reflects your ideal customer. Think of what your ideal customer’s values and characteristics are, as well as what challenges they have.

2) Develop an Identity. After determining what your customer wants, think about the identity of your brand. What tone will help you communicate best with your customer? What are your company values? How do you want people to talk about you? Once you have answered these questions, create content that reflects the brands message. Think email marketing, blog posts, and multimedia.

3) Plan Your Social Media Presence. It’s not enough to know what your brand is, you have to put yourself out there! Research which social media site your audience is spending the most time on and how they interact with that platform. Then, plan and schedule social media posts for that site.

3) Start a Company Blog. Instead of sourcing resources from similar brands, develop your own voice by writing blogs. While this takes time, it promotes your company as well as populate your social media networks. Think “two birds, one stone”.

5) Prioritize Customer Service. Good customer service acts as its own form of branding. Satisfied customers give your company recognition that your brand has earned, not paid for. By putting your customers first and delivering service you want them to experience, you’re shaping your brand’s culture and future.
