Social Media News: May 2018
If there's one thing that is constant about social media, it's that it is ever changing. Some of your favorite social media platforms rolled out big changes this month. Here are the highlights of what you should know:
-Instagram Adds a Mute Button
If you got annoyed with your friend's content, it used to be that you had to unfollow them on Instagram to stop seeing their posts. Now, you can just hit the mute button!
-Facebook Stories Hit 150 Million Daily Active Users
If you're still not using Facebook stories, now is the time to begin! Facebook Stories just hit 150 million daily active users. In comparison, Instagram has 300 million users and Snapchat has 191 million users. Facebook Stories are on track to overtake Snapchat before too long!
-LinkedIn Adds Hashtags
If you haven't been on LinkedIn lately, you probably haven't noticed that they've added hashtags. And what can you do with those hashtags? You can follow them...just like you can on Instagram.
-Facebook Adds a Platform for Teenagers
In an attempt to convince teenagers that Facebook is cool, Facebook rolled out a Youth Portal. You can read more about what that entails here.
-Your Organic Instagram Posts Can Now Be Turned into Ads Through Facebook Ads Manager
Instead of using the promote button in Instagram (the equivalent of the Facebook Boost Post), you can now turn your existing Instagram posts into ads through Facebook Ads Manager. Currently, only single image and single video posts are eligible.
-Facebook Adds New Metrics for Videos
It's no secret that video is hot, hot, hot on Facebook! So Facebook recently added some additional metrics page admins can use to monitor and review the performance of their videos on Facebook. You'll be able to view the number of followers and non-followers of your page that viewed your video, get demographic info about the people who watched the video, and more.
-Facebook is Rolling Out a New Look for Ad Reports
In an effort to help advertisers create and analyze ad performance more efficiently and easily, Facebook is rolling out a new look for reports in Ads Manager. Read more here.
-Instagram Adds an Emoji Slider For Story Polls
I think this cute thing is super fun! Instead of forcing people to choose between two options on your Instagram Stories, you can now ask people "how" e.g. How much do you love reading blog posts from Minute Marketing? :D
What do you think of these changes? Which one are you most excited to try out? Let me know in the comments below!
