Social Media News: August 2020
Each month I recap the biggest changes in social media so you can stay informed and adjust your marketing strategy accordingly. Here are the highlights of what you should know from August 2020:
Twitter Looks Into Comment Moderation and Conversation Management: Twitter is making it easier to control who replies to your tweets with its new comment moderation and conversation management controls. Twitter users can limit who can reply to their tweets with several settings: everyone, people you follow, or only people you mention. This feature is slowly rolling out to users, so if you don’t have it just yet, hang tight.
Twitter Separating Retweets and Quote Retweets: Twitter recently allowed users to see both retweets and retweets with comments. Well, it looks like Twitter is expanding that utility, showing retweets and quotes as their own separate sections. This separates all of the types of retweets, making it easier to see how many retweets and how many retweets with comments a tweet has gotten at first glance. The infamous Twitter ratio has just gotten more complicated! Learn more here.
Snapchat Launches First Mini App: Snapchat launched the first of its Mini-Apps! This Mini-App utilizes tools from the meditation app Headspace. The micro-version app within the Snapchat platform allows users to engage with friends in meditation sessions together. Keep an eye on Snapchat to see what other Mini apps it releases. Learn more about this Mini-App here.
Facebook Releases New Web Collage App: Facebook’s experimental NPE team has released a new app, an early-internet inspired collage board tool called E.gg. E.gg allows you to create canvases, free-form mixed media collages that let you express yourself. These nostalgic canvases were inspired by earl web platforms like Geocites and MySpace. Pinterest Shares New Guide: Want to learn more about Pinterest marketing? Pinterest has just released a new guide on Pinterest Advertising.
